It is a systemic insecticide that acts by ingestion and foliar application from the group of insect growth regulators for the control of immature stages of larvae. The product dimilin does not have translaminar action on the insect: diflubenzuron acts on larvae by ingestion and to a lesser extent by contact.

There is a direct effect through contact on eggs due to the inability of fully formed larvae to emerge from them; the product does not have a shock effect. Thanks to its mechanism of action, this systemic insecticide that acts by ingestion inhibits the formation of chitin in the cuticle of the larvae, thus blocking the normal molting processes.

The active ingredient diflubenzuron acts by preventing the assembly of the chitin molecule, which is why the larvae cannot generate a new cuticle after molting and die from both dehydration and starvation, as they cannot harden their mouthparts.
